Common workplace accidents in Conyers, Georgia
What to do if you’re injured at work in Conyers, GA
If you’re a resident of Conyers and have suffered a work-related injury, it’s vital you act swiftly. Most importantly, seek medical attention and notify your manager or supervisor immediately. Get the process started by letting your boss know and beginning a paper trail. If you wait too long to file a workers’ compensation claim, insurance companies could view your injury as illegitimate.
Supervisors might say things like, “I wouldn’t file a claim if you want to keep your job.” Or they might tell you there was no way you could have been hurt on the job, that it’s impossible.
First off, don’t listen to them. I know it’s hard. However, you have a legal right to file a workers’ compensation claim if you were hurt on the job. In fact, delaying a report of a claim may be more harmful to you than actually reporting the claim.
When you need to file a formal workers’ compensation claim, the forms will require you to include details about your injury and situation — including the location of the injury, how and where the injury occurred, the date and time, and potential witnesses. Be sure to attend all follow-up medical appointments. Also, we highly recommend that you refrain from posting on social media.
If you suffered a work-related injury while on-the-job, it’s important to follow these simple steps:
- Seek medical attention immediately.
- Notify your supervisor or manager.
- Start the workers’ compensation papertrail by filing a claim. (Injured workers who fail to report a work-related injury within 30 days could lose their right to receive workers’ compensation benefits.)
- Consult a workers’ compensation lawyer near you to learn about your rights.
- Visit your employer’s approved doctor for any follow-up treatment.
- Attend all doctor’s visits and physical therapy.
- Refrain from posting to social media while you’re on the mend.

Types of workers’ comp benefits available to injured Conyers workers
Once the workers’ comp process has started, depending on circumstances, a worker injured on the job could be entitled to receive the following benefits:
- Medical benefits. Your employer’s workers’ comp insurance should cover any expenses regarding medical diagnosis and treatment of a job-related injury. Emergency room, hospital and doctors visit bills should all be covered, as should prescription drugs and travel expenses (to and from medical care).
- Lost wages. Roughly two-thirds of your lost wages should be paid weekly, up to a certain cap. The two types of wage replacement benefits available are total temporary disability (TTD) and total partial disability (TPD) benefits.
- Permanent disability benefits. Following medical treatment, your physician may determine that you suffer from a certain level of “permanent” impairment, which may allow you to qualify for permanent partial disability (PPD) benefits. PPD benefits are weekly payments that kick in when you are no longer receiving TTD or TPD wage replacement benefits. You may be able to get this payout even if you return to work.
- Death benefits. If an employee is killed while on the job, these benefits are paid to the worker’s dependents (child or spouse) to cover funeral costs and lost wages.
What’s more, other benefits beyond what’s listed above may be available for those who suffer hearing loss, loss of eyesight, or the complete loss of a body part due to amputation.
Don’t take your employer at their word if they say your workplace injury isn’t covered.

About Conyers, Georgia
Conyers is considered a suburb of Atlanta, GA. as it lies about 24 miles east of downtown. According to the most recent census, roughly 15,000 people call the Rockdale County city home. The nearby town of Milstead is now a part of Conyers, which is the county seat of Rockdale County.
The Creek and Cherokee Indians inhabited the area known as Rockdale for centuries, before European settlers began moving to the area in 1816. The first known settler was a blacksmith named John Holcomb, who constructed a log cabin on the same site where the Rockdale County Courthouse currently stands. The first businesses documented to have sprouted up around this time included a sawmill, gristmill, cotton gin and the area’s first school.
Around 1827, Holcomb was upset about the coming Georgia Railroad and sold his land to Dr. W.D. Conyers, who then offered the railroad right-of-way. Following that act, Conyers Station village was born. By 1845, the railroad ran trains between Atlanta and Augusta. In 1854, the town shortened its name to “Conyers” and had a population of about 400.
In the later half of the 19th century, Conyers gained a reputation as a wild town, with 5 brothels and 12 saloons. Over the next 50 years, the town was partially destroyed by fire 3 times. Also during that time, the city’s population boomed to 1,800 and more than 40 stores sprang up — including a hotel, a college and primary schools.
Over the next 100 years the town steadily grew, with employers like the Milstead Manufacturing Company coming and going, with a resident population now sitting at around 16,000 people. A few notable people from the Conyers area include DeForest Kelley (Dr. McCoy of Star Trek fame), sister actresses Dakota and Elle Fanning, actress Holly Hunter, NASCAR driver Chris Cockrum, and MLB pitcher Billy Buckner.
